2016-17 School Calendar

Sequim School District 2016-17 School Calendar

Sequim School District annually provides a Parent Guide and Calendar to every school family and staff member each August for the new school year.  The Parent Guide provides important parent notification information, as well as contact information and a twelve month calendar with school events.

Work on the 2016-17 calendar began in spring 2016 with a survey taken by parents, staff and community members.  “We wanted to have input from our school families to gage the amount of interest in this annual project,” said Communications Director Patsene Dashiell.  Survey results showed a vast majority felt the printed parent guide and annual calendar is valued.  “The survey revealed that almost half of our families rely on the printed calendar for event information”, said Dashiell.

The calendar underwent a major design change for the 2016-17 school year, featuring photographs of student groups and school events.  “At a conference I attended a few years ago, I picked up a sample of a calendar from Olympia School District that featured students’ photos throughout,” said Dashiell.  “I thought it was very engaging, and longed to do something similar for our district, but how to afford it?  I contacted the communications people at OSD and they very graciously shared information, including their sponsorship concept that essentially pays for the calendar.”

District administration was supportive of the concept. To cover printing expenses, twelve local businesses signed on as monthly sponsors. Sponsors’ logos are featured on each month’s page, and each sponsor has a designated month where their logo is prominently displayed. The photos featured in the calendar were taken during the 2015-16 school year by Dashiell, Mike Dashiell of the Sequim Gazette and Greywolf Elementary secretary Darcy Lamb.  Dashiell collaborated with local graphic designer Cathy Clark to develop the calendar’s eye-catching layout.

Additional information featured in the calendar includes High School Graduation Requirements Policy 2410 and State Testing Windows and Dates.  The District also devoted a calendar page to recognize local organizations who help serve the children and families of our community.  These Partners in Education are: Albert Haller Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, Citizens for Sequim Schools, City of Sequim, Dungeness River Audubon Center, Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Peninsula College, North Olympic Library System, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Sequim Education Foundation, United Way of Clallam County, and Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County.

The District would like to thank 2016-17 calendar sponsors: Clark Designs, Clear Water Bidets, Evergreen Home Loans, 1st Security Bank, Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Kettel’s Car Wash, Deli & Detail, Sequim Animal Hospital, The YMCA of Sequim, Sodexo Food Services, Sound Community Bank, State Farm and Team McAleer Re Max Prime.

Opportunity for new sponsorship for the 2017-18 calendar will open in January 2017.  For more information, contact Patsene Dashiell at (360)582-3264.
